Brief History

Brief history:

HYPER.SEA has worked in a variety of initiatives involving local organizations and artists. Founded on April 2005 by Joshua Short and me (Mabel Negrete), HYPER.SEA was originally created to bring together some of our existing initiatives in a context that was open to involve other artists and audiences in the field. These projects were Borders Inside Out, Biowaste Sculpture, Public Informative Art and the Living Walls. Then, in 2006 curator Victoria Restler join us and with Joshua developed Hidden Histories. This was a multifaceted public art exhibition and it was presented in 2007. That same summer we implemented the Inner Mission – a workshop that ask young artists to look at our neighborhood in unique ways.

HYPER.SEA initial inception was also possible by the moral support and artistic experience of Alli Spector, Antonio Chavez and professor Stacy Garfinkel – local artists and teachers invested in the making of public, relational and community arts.
