Bio Waste – sculpture project

BIO WASTE sculpture project
2003 – 2005

[ Website ]

Joshua Short (Hypersea artist) worked with Asha Setty (Fort Funston’s nursery manager of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy) to develop a series of workshops that creatively reused the bio-waste of the restoration process at Fort Funston, San Francisco – California.

Using the techniques of habitat restoration and art making, participants worked collectively to design, pull, move, and sculpt roughly a ton of invasive plant matter (Ice plant) into huge sight specific living sculptures. By the end of each workshop participants learned some of the practices of land restoration, as well as an understanding of the native habitat and history of Fort Funston.
